EMBALMING THEATRE "The World is a Stage for Murder" Cd

(No Escape Records - NE 018)
Release date: 2005
Running time: 34:43

Review:
This band doesn't slack around, they always keep helming new releases! and judging from their list of upcoming releases, they're well on their way of becoming the new Agathocles! This is their latest full length cd, the second one after "Sweet Chainsaw Melodies" ("Hormones from the Dead" was only a Mcd). As usual, this is a nice slice of sastisfying Grind/Death entertainment, going back to the basics of old school grinding death metal, with thick, heavy, chainsaw-like guitar riffing, blasting and crushing rhythms, throat-torturing guttural growls, etc... Just keeping things simple, fast, catchy and fun. It might only be an impression, but the guitar tone this time around sounds much more incisive and ripping, anyhow I like it! You probably already heard me refer to Blood & Hideous Mangleus as probable influences for Embalming Theatre's style before in past reviews, and well this album actually contains a Hideous Mangleus cover version so I wasn't completely wrong with that one, heh! Some humorous touches can also be found therein like a wacky mix of death/grind and blues in the last song and some pretty out there art direction... Honestly I didn't dig the art and layout as much as the cool stuff they did on "Hormones from the Dead", but anyway that kind of stuff isn't the most important thing. The band continues with their string of dark-humored, reality-based lyrics which are always a cool read! Overall, some very nice death/grind here... So yeah, this one gets the Braindead stamp of approval!

Tracks: 1)Buried Alive VI: Stabbed, Beaten And Pregnant (0:59) 2)Amputation Of The Wrong Leg Pt II (1:51) 3)Punched, Burned, Strangled And Decapitated (1:02) 4)Living With The Mummy (1:44) 5)Dead Garbage II: Strangled Babies Shoved In Bags (1:04) 6)Skull Soccer Pt II (2:00) 7)Get High On A Dead Dog (1:21) 8)Registered Sex Offender Lives Here (2:06) 9)Foetal Remains In A Trash Compactor (2:16) 10)The World Is A Stage...For Murder! EMBALMING THEATRE/TORTURE INCIDENT Split Cd

(Reverb Productions - reverb004)
Release date:
2005
Running time: 28:27

Embalming Theatre Review:
As usual from this pretty prolific swiss band, you can expect quality grinding death metal, very straightforward, heavy and with a definitely old school feel. Assertive and relatively intelligible roaring growls, nice and thick guitar sound and some extremely proficient, tight and fast drumming... While listening to this, it really stroke me how much this band sounds like Dead Infection from their "Start Human Slaughter" period! Add to this a smoking "Fear of Napalm" Terrorizer cover and that's it for Embalming Theatre excellent side... As always, lyrics are in the same reality-based dark humored horror vein...
Torture Incident Review: The other band sharing this split comes from Malaysia... This is pretty much in the same style, with 10 well-rounded tracks of raging low-tuned Grind/Death... Guitars are tuned in a slightly dissonant manner but the band delivers some pretty nice, competent riffage with the helpings of furiously pounding drumming and animalistic growling (which almost sound pitch-shifted although these vocals could as well be natural, I couldn't really tell..), this band has a nice aggressive thing going but at the same time their sound is quite warm and fuzzy, I like it! Overall, a pretty cool split release!

Tracks: Embalming Theatre: 1)Rape The Cadaver (1:04) 2)Buried Alive I: Undead In The Morgue (1:45) 3)Shoes Made Of Human Skin (1:15) 4)Someone Else In My Coffin (0:59) 5)Patricide. Fraticide. Suicide. (2:36) 6)Dead, Stolen, Hacked Up And Raped (1:31) 7)Smell Of The Mummified Baby (1:01) 8)We Ate Daddy (1:37) 9)Fear Of Napalm (3:03)
Torture Incident: 10)Fuck The Rest Who Act Like Shit (0:47) 11)Slowly Rotting (1:52) 12)Massacre Beast Master (0:33) 13)Ignorance Alive (1:39) 14)Mortar Assault (1:16) 15)Aggresive Dog Attack (1:29) 16)Consumed By Hate (1:01) 17)Bangsat (2:37) 18)Seing Nothing, Believing Nothing (0:50) 19)Intro Morbid (0:39) 20)Raised In Misery (0:53)

EMBALMING THEATRE "Hormones From the Dead" Mcd

(No Escape Records - NE 013)
Release date: 2004
Running time:
16:32

Review:
Here's what's probably the best swiss band since Exucleration... The band delivers a very particular blend of grind and death metal, really basic but effective, with a rotten, heavy old school sound, chain saw-like guitar riffs, pounding drums, low growling but articulate vocals and a great deal of humor too (especially in their selection of movie samples)... As I already said about this band before, they pretty much remind me of Blood, something heavy, roaring, direct and well, brutal but kinda fun at the same time. I really like what they do with the lyrics too, just short, darkly humorous tales inspired by everyday news and real-life horrors... This time, packaging layout and art are also really beautiful, I didn't overly like the art of their first cd on Razorback Records, but this time I think it looks great! This is solid work... definitely worth getting excited about...

Tracks: 1)Hormones From The Dead 2)I Want My Gay Boyfriend To Eat Me Alive 3)Cadaveric Sandcastle 4)Dying Funeral Procession II: Cemetary Carnage 5)Locked Up With Hungry Cannibals 6)Six Little Corpses 7)Hallucinating Genitals-Ejector 8)Contamination With Embalming Fluids 9)Failed And Nailed 10)They Drowned In A Lake Of Blood 11)Burried Alive III: Suffocation In The Sand-Box

EMBALMING THEATRE "Sweet Chainsaw Melodies" Cd

(Razorback Records - RR19)
Release date:
2003
Running time: 32:49

Review:
Surprising to see this swiss band having their album released by Razorback, I don't think the label ever released a band quite like Embalming Theatre before. Their style is a hybrid of grindcore and death metal not unlike Blood (Germany), retaining the simplicity and fastness of grindcore but delivering songs with more of a death metal-like thick, crushing heaviness. I think clarity in song writing is key here, they keep it simple, straying away from more popular kinds of over-complex death metal which are often boring to me. Vocals are all growls, raging and aggressive, but still preserving a natural feel to them, guitar riffs are very straightforward, catchy, always keeping a clear line... You can also add to that effective, striking and quite fast drumming... Embalming Theatre is utterly enjoyable and a great throwback at old school death metal and grindcore. Other than Blood, bands Embalming Theatre reminds me of are especially Hideous Mangleus (USA) and maybe Inhumate (France)... One of the higher points of this album is also the fantastic cover song the band makes of "Gastric Purulence" composed originally by Exulceration, a long broken up band and old personal favorite of mine... Exulceration also came from Switzerland; By the way, Embalming Theatre didn't forget to use vocal effects for this track, that's what makes it one of the highlight on the cd for me! (Me likes gory vocal effects a lot ) Yeah, this band Exulceration used to kick serious ass! Alright, back to Embalming Theatre... Lyrics are quite interesting too; the opening song (and title song) is a nice tribute to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The rest is more about real life horrors happening around the globe; it really made me think of what Dead Infection did with their excellent lyrics on "A Chapter of Accidents", something quite horrific, rooted in everyday's life and very dark-humored as well. Also, the artwork is something really original and specific to the band, check out the covers for all their Split Ep releases and you'll see they all have this special kind of artwork... pretty intriguing looking stuff really. A few nice horror intros are thrown in there too, one of them is a tad overlong, but there's only like 3 of them for the whole album so I'm fine with it... The long one is taken from Day of the Dead, the rest I couldn't figure out. The final track is some kind of really weird folk stuff. Overall, very good album, quite original and skilled band... There'll be a LP version of this released through Putrid Filth (Sweden) too!

Tracks: 1)Intro 2)Sweet chainsaw melodies 2)Execution is not a game 3)Exploit of corpses 4)Dive for the dead 4)Brains one hand and one foot in my luggage 5)We ate daddy 6)She ate her flesh 7)A leg is in the mail 8)Shoes made of human skin 9)Intermezzo 10)Someone else in my coffin 11)Chatroom for impalers 12)Dead, stolen, hacked up and raped 13)Buried alive II: breath of cancer 14)Gastric purulence (Exulceration cover) 15)Crash the hearse 16)Topless but mummified 17)Chemical solution for a rotten problem 18)Corpse on board 19)Bags with heads

EMBALMING THEATRE/INTUMESCENCE Split 7" Ep

(Murder the World - MTW006)
Release date:
2005

Review:
Swiss grinding death meets dutch goregrind on a split ep that is I think the very last Murder the World release... What's to say about Embalming Theatre? They're very prolific and I'm starting to get repetitive with all the reviews I wrote for their stuff. Once again, this is solid work, not the most original band ever but they certainly get the job done here with yet another heavy, thick load of roaring and growling and blasting death/grind... Catchy riffing, tight and fast drumming, raging vocals; Songs are all short and to the point, the simplest, most basic things are usually what work the best and this is the case here, plus vinyl gave them a slightly more abrasive edge that definitely enhances the band's sound. Musically I'd say this is something between Blood & Hideous Mangleus...
Intumescence plays their habitual brand of nasty, downtuned goregrind here, with absurd, splattery vocals pitch-shited to death, abrupt, chaotic drumming and a slimy, sludgy mass of grinding guitar riffs... This band plays goregrind in a sloppy way, but it's the good kind of sloppy, I don't think I ever heard a band capture the feel of Carcass from "Reek of Putrefaction" so well; this particular ep I think mixes more influences like Regurgitate (especially the gurgling vocals) and Gore Beyond Necropsy (for the harsh, noisy side). Oh and the Murder the World logo used on Intumescence side is something I personally drew!!! So it was nice to see it turn up here!!! All in all, a pretty terrific ep... Too bad to see Murder the World calling it quits so soon, their releases kicked a lot of ass!

FINAL EXIT/EMBALMING THEATRE Split Ep

(Nuclear Barbecue Party)
Release date:
2002

Final Exit "FxExNxGx" Review:
I was expecting unbearable Noisecore, but that stuff is very tight and I thought the overall sound was really sharp. Basicly, that's kick-ass grindcore, with a lot of hysterical screaming and ultra-short songs. That stuff is really awesome, very effective. It's like old Anal Cunt only better. Great fun, and in-your-face grinding noise-core... I liked that stuff a lot .

Embalming Theatre "Cardinal Pad O. Phile" Review: Here's something very different in style, Embalming Theatre is well constructed, fast, thrashing grind-death. I really got into this stuff. It's catchy and enticing, well-composed and refreshingly brutal. Great musicanship, good sound... Yet another great Ep put out by Nuclear Barbecue Party!

SEWN SHUT/EMABLMING THEATRE

  (Sound of Betrayal/Putrid Filth Conspiracy)
Release date: 2003

Sewn Shut Review: This starts with a slow, ominous riff, and then quickly turns into Sewn Shut's usual assaultive grindcore that goes straight for the jugular. Rapid, blasting and pounding drumming, bludgeoning fast grindcore guitars and bass chaos, menacing, angry vocals (guttural growls and shrieking) reciting equally angry, bad-moody, pessimistic lyrics about the world going to hell. A fitting raw but powerful sound. Some damn fine grindcore songwriting to be found here, intense, concise, catchy... everything executed in a tight and fast as hell manner. I doubt you'll find a more devastating and uncompromising band than Sewn Shut around... They keep it up with the shocking imagery for the cover too... Disturbing.
Tracks: 1)Cretinism 2)Reduced to nothing 3)Twentythree million zombies 4)Smear of destruction 5)Four star opposition

Embalming Theatre Review: Begins with a nice and chilling intro taken from Dario Argento's Suspiria... The rest is pounding and aggressive death-grind, extremely fast and blasting drums, grinding heavy sound and some thrashing guitar riffs, devastating growls. The band has a very basic approach to the style, straightforward but also extremely speed-fueled death-grind is what you're getting here... The recording is a little rough but still quite thick and clear. 4 songs including one Filthy Christians cover version. Kinda weird lyrics. In summary, killer Split Ep here... You know you want it!
Tracks: 1)Intro 2)The asian penis-elevator 3)Combustible mummy 4)Satanist (Filthy Christians) 5)Deadly jewellery 6)Outro
